New to Christianity?
Jesus loved you so much He sacrificed himself for your sake. Here’s why…
Jesus Christ lived 2000 years ago in Israel, when it was under Roman rule. You may be familiar with His origins, sometimes called the story of the Nativity. Jesus was fully God and fully man, sent by His father so that human beings might come to know God through Jesus. In his three years of preaching, Jesus told God’s radical message for humanity – that He loves us, wants to be in a relationship with us, wants us to love one another.
The Gospels in the New Testament give a full account of Jesus’s life, from His extraordinary birth to His death by execution. The Gospels tell us that Jesus died for our sins, so that we could have eternal life. As humans, we sin all the time – we make mistakes, we hurt those around us, we don’t act with love and patience when we should. Our sin separates us from God; or at least, it did until Jesus, who lived a sinless life, died on the cross, taking the punishment each of us deserved. Because of this, when we accept Jesus as our Saviour, we are no longer separated from God.
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” - John 14:6
As Christians, we live our lives striving to become more like Jesus. This means we are called to love those around us – even when they hurt us, even if it’s difficult. We believe that to love is an active action – it means serving, supporting, understanding, befriending. At St Kat’s, we often consider how we might be representatives of God’s love on our ‘frontlines’, i.e. our every day lives: our jobs, our loved ones, our community.
A further challenge for Christian’s, is allowing scripture to shape our thinking, which quite often means we are at odds with what society might be saying about many issues. In all things, Christians are called to be faithful to God.
Whether you’ve never been to church before or you’ve been a believer for years, we would love to get to know you. We meet every Sunday at 10.45.
